Clematis 'Lemon Beauty' was bred by the Polish nurseryman Szczepan Marczyński and introduced to the market in the summer of 2012. Its flowers are exceptionally large for the alpine clematis (Atragene) group (10-12 cm), bell-shaped and nodding, with four lance-shaped, slightly wavy sepals: they open lime-green, brighten to a delicate lemon yellow and fade almost white at full bloom, with yellow anthers on lime-coloured filaments and a light scent.
It flowers twice: the main flush appears from May to June on the previous year's growth, followed by a second, usually lighter flush on new growth in August. At 200 to 300 cm tall, 'Lemon Beauty' is well suited to fences, trellises and lattice supports, as well as for training over rocks or old tree stumps. It prefers a sunny but not too hot spot, or semi-shade – the root area should be kept cool and shaded.
'Lemon Beauty' is very reliably hardy (zone 4, down to around -34.4 °C) and is considered low-maintenance internationally: it belongs to pruning group 1, which in principle needs no systematic pruning. Still, for vigorous growth and abundant flowering it is recommended to cut the plant back to about 100 cm in June.
