Honeysuckle (Lonicera)
The garden honeysuckle (Lonicera caprifolium) belongs to the family Caprifoliaceae (honeysuckle family) and is native to southern Europe.
It thrives in rather dry, chalky soils. Under favourable conditions the Lonicera lianas grow up to 10 m tall. They bear oval, fused leaves. The two-lipped flowers appear in May and range from creamy white to red.
The popular climber Jelängerjelieber, as it is also commonly known in German, is gladly used to cover garden arbours or fences with greenery.
