Delbard Roses

Among the roses of the French rose breeder Delbard you will find, besides the well-known painter roses, rewarding climbing roses and strongly scented smaller shrubs. All Delbard roses in our range are repeat-flowering, sufficiently hardy in the Allgäu and disease-resistant.

For many of these roses, great emphasis was placed on fragrance during breeding; many of these fragrant roses are therefore also used in perfume making or are even named after a perfume.

Delbard climbers

Above all Dune, Nahéma and Papi Delbard are robust, rewarding climbing roses that even beginners will enjoy. In addition to their easy care, the climbing roses by Delbard are distinguished above all by their strong fragrance.

Varieties named after chefs

The roses named after famous chefs are single-coloured, rewarding small shrub roses with a good fragrance that mostly grow no taller than 80 cm and are therefore also well suited to containers. An exception is Guy Savoy, which can also be grown as a climbing rose with suitable care. Anyone looking for a deep dark red, almost black rose for a container should take a look at Heinz Winkler.

History

Georges Delbard (1906, Malicorne), who had had a great passion for roses and fruit trees since childhood, opened what was probably the first garden centre in Paris in 1935. In the same year the first order catalogue appeared.

On a farm taken over in 1942 in Malicorne he began producing fruit trees, followed by roses in 1945. In 1955 André Chabert joined, who successfully worked on breeding new rose varieties. One of the first Delbard roses is considered to be the free-flowering grandiflora Centenaire de Lourdes (1958), which many others have followed since. The youngest son, Guy Delbard, took over the breeding of new roses in 1977, while his two brothers continue to run the company through its turbulent history to this day. To date about 250 roses from Delbard have been launched, many of which have been available to buy in Germany since the mid-1990s.
