Bourbon Roses
Bourbon roses originated on the Île de Bourbon, the island in the Indian Ocean now known as Réunion. Here the settlers protected their fields with hedges of autumn damask roses and Old Blush China.
From a seedling arose the ´Rosier de l' ÎIle de Bourbon´, which was first sold in France in 1823. The colours of the Bourbon roses range from white through pink to scarlet-carmine red. The wonderfully, heavily scented flowers, which appear from June to late autumn, are double.
The taller-growing varieties among the Bourbon roses are vigorous; thanks to their arching, drooping and strong growth, some of them can also be used as a climbing rose.
