Clematis 'Star of Pakistan' arose in 2010 at J. van Zoest BV in the Netherlands as a sport of the old cultivar 'Star of India' and reached the trade in 2013; in 2014 it was registered under the cultivar name 'Zostapa'. Its 8–10 cm flowers are violet with darker bars. They consist of four to six tepals; inside they show red-purple colouring with a red central bar that ages to purple, while the reverse stays pale purple.
From June to September 'Star of Pakistan' opens its flowers and keeps you company throughout the summer. At around 250 cm tall, it suits trellises, obelisks and fences and is easy to keep within bounds.
'Star of Pakistan' is reliably hardy (zone 6, down to approx. -23 °C). As it flowers on the current season's growth, cut it back to approx. 25 cm in March; it then shoots away strongly and rewards you with plenty of flowers year after year.
