The clematis 'Etoile Rose' was introduced in 1903 by the French breeder Victor Lemoine and ranks among the historic cultivars of the Viticella Group. Its nodding, bell-shaped flowers are deep pink with a lighter, silvery-pink margin and four narrow sepals curved outward at the tips; they reach a diameter of 5 to 6 cm.
Growing to about 300 cm, 'Etoile Rose' climbs from July to September and suits fences, trellises or pergolas well. The cultivar thrives in sun or partial shade and tolerates almost any aspect; a sheltered spot with a cool, shaded root area benefits it.
'Etoile Rose' is hardy (zone 6, down to about -23 °C) and belongs to pruning group 3: cut the plant back to about 25 cm in March. In exposed, full-sun positions, mildew can occasionally occur.

7bFrom three shoots a profusely flowering plant develops, which already shows its second flush in July to August.
Hundreds of flowers on one plant - fantastic.
It stands in full sun in front of a south-facing wall and gets water every now and then.
Unfortunately the clematis likes to get powdery mildew from July on, which I can prevent by spraying preventively with a fungicide for fungal diseases on roses.Automatically translated · Show original
