Planting and caring for roses in containers - here is how it works!
Smaller roses (up to approx. 120 cm, depending on pot size) are particularly well suited to pots and tubs. The ideal spot for a potted rose is on the terrace or in the garden.
The size of the pot depends on the size and shape of the rose; about 1/3 of the expected height is a sensible guideline.
If the plant needs to be kept smaller, this is done by a hard pruning in spring.
Please also note that roses in pots need to be fertilised and watered more often.
Which rose varieties for pots?
For every variety we have recorded whether it is suitable for growing in a container.
You can also choose directly in the rose search whether you only want to see these.
For smaller containers a hybrid tea rose is a good choice; if the tub stands near a seating area it is advisable to choose a rose with a strong fragrance.
