By Rose Breeder
Among the many rose breeders, we present the most important ones here, together with the roses they have created.
But what exactly is a rose breeder?
Even if some prolific writers or advertisers on the internet see it somewhat differently:
Not every rose nursery or rose dealer is automatically a rose breeder.
The latter requires that new varieties emerge from years of breeding work through deliberate crossing and selection. The rose breeder generally pursues a breeding goal with his actions.
If new rose varieties are 'discovered' as chance seedlings or sports - which happens quite often in rose nurseries, businesses that trade in roses and pure propagation nurseries - this too cannot be equated with deliberate breeding work.
