The first fertilising of the lawn takes place in spring

As soon as the days get longer and temperatures rise, the right time has come to think about fertilising the lawn.

At this time of year the lawn usually does not look attractive and needs attention in the form of a dose of fertiliser. You will learn more about the right timing and the background of spring fertilising of lawns in the following.

Why should you fertilise the lawn in spring?

Looked at closely, the many lawn plants make up a gigantic monoculture which as a whole needs many nutrients and also trace elements. After winter, when temperatures rise and more light is available with longer days, it is therefore a good time to support the lawn by applying lawn fertiliser. The many small grass plants should be able to hold their own against moss, wild plants and weeds and other competition for valuable nutrients, light and water right from the start. For various reasons, mostly to do with wrong or unfortunate care before winter, the lawn may also not be in optimal shape. It is obvious - fertilising the lawn in spring is important for ideal growth of the green outdoor carpet.
