Climbing supports
Arches, obelisks, trellises for roses, clematis and climbing plants
Climbing supports, also known as climbing aids, are used when there is no natural support for roses, clematis or other climbing plants. A natural climbing support could be, for example, a tree, shrub, fence or even a small building.
Another reason for a trellis is of course its own aesthetic appeal, quite independent of the plants growing on it.
The choice of climbing support depends on the vigour of the climbing plant, its location in the garden and personal preferences. In any case, the supporting element should be stable enough to safely bear the botanical load even after rain, in a storm or with an additional load of snow.
In the long run, only a metal trellis really withstands the weather in the garden. A wooden climbing support will sooner or later rot, and a plastic trellis bleaches over the years from UV radiation, becomes porous and loses stability.
Here we present the individual types of climbing supports and give valuable tips on how your combination of trellis and climbing plant can bring you joy for many years.
