Fragrant clematis

Clematis varieties with a lovely fragrance

Fragrant clematis more clematis than you would expect give off a lovely fragrance

Fragrant clematis are growing in popularity in home gardens. With a little planning it is even possible to have a lushly flowering, fragrant clematis for almost the whole year.

As early as April, some varieties among the Clematis montana types delight with their strong fragrance. Once these have finished flowering, it is a good idea to have a C. flammula in reserve, which flowers at the same time as the roses. For late summer, the fragrant herbaceous clematis from the Heracleifolia group are a good choice. And if you have the opportunity, you can even enjoy the fragrance of Clematis armandii in late winter in a conservatory or cold greenhouse.

Our list of fragrant clematis is therefore sorted especially for those who want to take on this challenge - namely by flowering period. But all other clematis lovers should also quickly find the right fragrant variety for the planned location.

When choosing fragrant clematis, please be sure to pay attention to the information on hardiness. Clematis are perennial - planting a variety that dies of cold after one season makes absolutely no sense. In particular, the fragrant clematis that have recently been offered in discount stores and DIY stores are mostly not hardy - even though this is of course not pointed out there. If you study our list more closely, you will find that there are also sensible options.
