Clematis 'MULTI PINK' arose as a sport of the well-known variety 'Hagley Hybrid' and was discovered by Dutch breeder Dennis van der Starre before 2019. Its 8-13 cm flowers glow in purple-pink with a narrow, darker central bar on each sepal; the densely packed, multi-layered petals give the blooms a full, almost pointed shape.
At around 300 cm, 'MULTI PINK' is a vigorous grower that flowers from July to September. It suits tall trellises, fences and other supports in sunny to semi-shaded spots, and also thrives in a sufficiently large container (at least about 45 cm deep and wide). In semi-shade the purple-pink flower colour stays richest for longest, while the roots and base of the plant should be kept cool and shaded.
'MULTI PINK' is reliably hardy (zone 5, down to about -28 °C). Cut the plant back hard to about 100 cm in March so it produces vigorous new growth and flowers abundantly. When planting, set the crown 5-8 cm deep so new shoots can also grow from below ground level if needed.
