Clematis 'Paradiso' was introduced in 2016 by Dutch breeder Wim Snoeijer. Its 8 to 12 cm flowers are pale red with a darker margin; the early blooms carry 8 or more tepals, while the later flush usually shows 6, with a then more pronounced stripe. Dark red stamens with yellow anthers create an attractive contrast.
'Paradiso' flowers in two periods, from May to June and again from July to August. Reaching around 200 cm in height, it suits trellises, obelisks and climbing frames, but also thrives in a container on a balcony or terrace.
The variety is reliably hardy (zone 6, down to about -23 °C) and otherwise undemanding. For a strong second flush, cut 'Paradiso' back to about 75 cm in June after the first bloom.
