Clematis 'Hot Kisses' belongs to the large-flowered hybrids (Patens Group) and produces vivid red blooms up to 14 cm across - among the largest flower sizes in this group's range.
'Hot Kisses' first flowers from May to June on last year's wood; after being cut back to about 100 cm in June, a second flush follows in August on new growth. With a compact height of 100-150 cm, it is particularly well suited to smaller gardens, trellises and generous containers on patios and balconies. A sunny to partly shaded position with a cool root run encourages vigorous growth and abundant flowering.
At zone 4 (down to about -34 °C), 'Hot Kisses' is among the especially hardy varieties and reliably survives harsh winters outdoors. For vigorous growth and a rich second flush, the plant is cut back to about 100 cm in June, right after its first flowering.
