Clematis 'Green Passion'

Clematis 'Green Passion' (breeding code 'Zo11050') was registered in 2016 and introduced the same year — one of the few cultivars with genuinely green, fully double flowers. Its 8-10 cm, densely double flowers open in early summer in an unusual apple-green shade with paler undersides; a lighter, looser autumn flush with fewer, often white-tipped tepals often follows.

At around 200 cm, 'Green Passion' suits trellises, obelisks and larger containers, and also fits smaller gardens. It thrives in full sun to semi-shade but prefers a cool, evenly moist root run – shade the base further with groundcover plants or flat stones.

'Green Passion' is reliably hardy (zone 6, down to about -23 °C). Cut it back to about 75 cm in June to encourage vigorous growth and a rich flush; as with most large-flowered hybrids, it takes a few years to reach full flowering performance.
