Clematis 'Ashva' bears violet flowers with a purple-red central bar that darkens towards the base. The six almost round, gently waved sepals frame a striking centre of purple-red stamens on whitish-pink filaments — the bold colour barely fades even in full sun.
'Ashva' flowers from June to September on new wood and stays pleasantly compact at around 150 cm — ideal for smaller trellises, obelisks and containers. It thrives on south, east or west-facing spots in full sun to semi-shade and needs a few years to reach its full flowering potential.
'Ashva' is reliably hardy (zone 6, down to about -23 °C). Cut it back to about 25 cm in March so it breaks strongly and flowers abundantly the same year.

Beautiful clematis that flowers diligently. The flowers are somewhat smaller than those of most clematis, but appear all the more numerous.
Flowering 2007: from 20.06. to 23.08.
Flowering 2008: from 07.06. to 20.08.
She is one of my favourites, perhaps even the most beautiful late hybrid I have. She has never been ill.
In autumn cut back to 30 cm above the ground - she flowers on the fresh shoots.
