Clematis 'Beauty of Worcester' is one of the classic Clematis hybrids (patens) and bears deep violet-blue flowers 12 to 15 cm across. The early flowers are often double or semi-double with a hint of pink in the colour, while later flowers stay single.
At about 300 cm tall, 'Beauty of Worcester' suits trellises, climbing frames and obelisks well, flowering in June and again from July to August. The variety is container-friendly and thrives in sun to part shade with south-, east- or west-facing aspects, ideally in moderately moist, well-drained soil.
'Beauty of Worcester' is reliably winter-hardy (zone 6, down to about -23 °C). Cut the plant back to about 100 cm in June to encourage vigorous growth and a rich second flush – the internationally used pruning group 2 classification would otherwise only call for light pruning in February/March, but for this variety the June cut-back is the one to follow.

Three years ago I planted a "Beauty of Worcester" clematis, and for 3 years it flowered beautifully twice a year. For the first 2 years I only cut it back well in spring; last time, last autumn, I did it in autumn because the foliage bothered me. This year, unfortunately, it hasn't sprouted again, even though it made a small start. So I suspect that the autumn pruning did it a lot of harm. On the internet I looked for a similar variety (blue and flowering twice) and found the "Multi Blue" clematis. It is already planted too, and now the two of us are waiting for a lovely summer :) By the way, I have given the "Beauty of Worcester" clematis one more chance to flower by planting it at the wire fence, and I will keep caring for it this year.Automatically translated · Show original
