The English shrub rose 'Queen of Sweden' has a moderately vigorous, very nicely upright growth habit. From the main flush in June into autumn it produces densely double, cup-shaped blooms in apricot that quickly lighten to a light, warm pink. The blooms, with a slight scent of musk, stand quite close together in numerous small clusters without hanging downward. When cut, the blooms of Queen of Sweden keep well in the vase.
The overall very pleasing and rewarding plant is reliably hardy and enjoys great popularity. It bears healthy, matte green foliage and only few thorns. Queen of Sweden is one of the relatively few Austin roses that carry their blooms well by themselves even in the first years.
Besides planting in a border, where with its upright growth habit it shows to good advantage on its own or in a small group, rather in the middle or in the background, Queen of Sweden is also an interesting hedge rose. But it also feels at home in a (sufficiently sized) container. The location may also be in partial shade.
