The English shrub rose Lady of Shalott bears vivid apricot-orange blooms, globular at first, then well opened, with a pleasant fragrance. The blooms are also good rain-resistant. It is extremely robust, low-maintenance and free-flowering, with vigorous, upright yet always graceful growth. The foliage, slightly reddish on emergence, takes on a beautiful colouring towards autumn.
Even newcomers to roses get along very well with the Leander hybrid Lady of Shalott, which received the coveted AGM award in 2012. Lady of Shalott is used in versatile ways as a shrub, in mixed borders, or as a cut rose for the vase.
The name was inspired by a tragic figure from the legend of King Arthur.
All in all, 'Lady of Shalott' is a versatile, low-maintenance and thoroughly recommendable Austin rose, with which you can only go wrong as a gift if vivid orange is absolutely the wrong colour.

Continuous bloomer with a pleasant fragranceA wonderful rose! Lady of Shalott grows in my mixed border, where the apricot-coloured blooms contrast wonderfully with summer phlox, lilies, lavender and bellflowers and smell pleasantly. It blooms almost without interruption from May until the frost and is extremely healthy. Even continuous rain can't harm the bloom.
In my garden it is now in its 5th year in full sun and in rather light, well-drained soil. It grows upright with slightly overhanging shoots and delicate foliage - a rather dainty, elegant appearance. Height approx. 1.70 m.
Care is undemanding: one feeding in spring at bud break and one after the first flush. In spring I prune it lightly and remove older shoots. I deadhead regularly, which it reliably rewards with new blooms. A beautiful rose that even rose newbies should manage well. Ideal for very small gardens too.Automatically translated · Show original
A great, uncomplicated roseI've had her in my garden for 6 years. The Lady is vigorous in growth but doesn't get above 1.5 metres. She blooms tirelessly all summer. The flower colour changes towards pink when it's very rainy, but she is very rain-resistant. One of my favourite roses. Only drawback: the blooms don't last well in the vase.Automatically translated · Show original
A very pleasant roseIt has stood in a sunny, exposed spot since 2025 and seems to like it. It grows up to 2 m tall, and it flowers abundantly. One or two doses of slow-release fertiliser in the soil per year, and a good liquid fertiliser every 4 weeks from the first sunny days in spring, that does the trick. The fragrance is very similar to high-quality loose-leaf teas from China, but unlike a Westerland it has almost no sweetness, it is quasi "bone dry". It tolerates being cut back by half and so far has had no diseases or pests at all.Automatically translated · Show original
