Clematis 'Golden Tiara' is a seedling of 'Golden Harvest', raised by the Dutch breeder H. J. M. Kuif of Uithoorn. It belongs to Clematis orientalis, which accounts for its pronounced robustness and resistance to clematis wilt. The flowers are pure yellow and 5 to 7 cm across; their special charm lies in the clearly visible dark violet stamens, which contrast beautifully with the yellow petals.
'Golden Tiara' flowers from July to August and reaches about 300 cm in height. It climbs vigorously on trellises, fences and pergolas and suits sunny to partly shaded positions. After flowering come silvery, glossy seedheads that lend themselves to crafts and decorations.
'Golden Tiara' is hardy (zone 5, down to about -23 to -29 °C). Cut the plant back to 25 cm in March; it will then shoot vigorously. The sap can irritate the skin, so wear gloves when pruning.
