Clematis montana 'Olga'

Clematis montana 'Olga' was discovered by breeder Olga Cadge as a seedling in her own garden, after whom the variety is named. From May to June, it produces abundant fragrant flowers about 6 cm across in a rich pink – a deeper shade than the common rubens hybrids of Clematis montana.

Reaching a height of around 500 cm, 'Olga' is ideally suited to trellises, pergolas and larger climbing frames, up which it grows vigorously. This robust climber thrives in almost any location – including shadier, north-facing walls – where it reliably produces its abundant blooms.

Hardy to zone 7 (around -17.7 to -12.3°C), 'Olga' proves reliable even in harsher locations. For compact growth and rich flowering the following year, prune the plant back to about 100 cm in June after flowering; left unpruned, this montana variety also continues to grow vigorously.
