Clematis montana 'Fragrant Spring' was introduced in 1992 by the Dutch Proefstation voor de Boomkwekerij in Boskoop and belongs to the robust Montana group. Its 6–8 cm single flowers, each with four sepals, appear in soft pink with striking yellow-green stamens and give off a pleasant, vanilla-like scent.
From May to June, 'Fragrant Spring' flowers in great abundance and reaches around 500 cm in height. This makes it well suited to covering trellises, pergolas and larger supports, though it grows somewhat more moderately than other Montana varieties. It thrives in sun to semi-shade – keep the root area cool and shaded, for example with ground cover plants or flat stones.
'Fragrant Spring' is reliably hardy (zone 7, down to about -17.7 °C). As it flowers on the previous year's wood, it is best cut back to about 100 cm right after flowering in June – this keeps it compact and ensures reliable flowering the following year. Give the plant some time to establish, and it will develop into a vigorous, fragrant eye-catcher.

The clematis grows lushly and quickly. Flowering often starts as early as April. The clematis quickly covers chain-link fences and is very low-maintenance. I can only recommend it.Automatically translated · Show original
