Clematis 'Crépuscule' goes back to the French breeder Victor Lemoine (around 1900) and is listed as a cross of Clematis heracleifolia var. davidiana with Clematis stans, botanically usually as Clematis × bonstedtii. Its blue flowers, about 3 cm across, sit in dense clusters along the stems and open into the typical hyacinth shape with recurved tips. A pleasant scent adds to their charm.
'Crépuscule' flowers from July to September and grows as an upright herbaceous clematis of about 125 cm, without climbing. It suits borders and beds, cottage and city gardens, and also thrives in containers. It is happiest in a sunny to partly shaded spot in moist but well-drained soil.
'Crépuscule' is reliably winter-hardy (zone 5, about -29 to -23 °C). Cut the plant back to about 25 cm in March – this encourages strong new growth and abundant flowering.
