Very beautiful on a slightly shaded corner of the houseI planted the rose Caroline Testout against my house wall about 20 years ago (I got the tip from a communication by the English rose breeder D. Austin, who had it like that on his parental home) and every year I am overwhelmed and delighted by its splendour!
It is a south corner and directly to the south there is a narrow tall thuja 3 m away, so there is shade in the midday heat, otherwise everything is bright and airy
The planting spot is not raised but a good 1.5 m from the corner of the house and also somewhat elevated (dry-stone wall and rising terrace bed, the terrace lies a good 1 m above the level); the shoots are guided to the house wall over a sturdy arch: fabulous, at least 300 (then you stop counting) flowers at the main bloom. The flowers clean themselves, except when it rains heavily in the middle of the bloom and they stick together, which is only rarely the case) The rose is totally healthy, apart from pruning I do nothing at all, I believe, perhaps renew some humus, the root area is somewhat shaded by small perennials.
The shoots are strong, somewhat stiff and last for years, then it is worth raising one or 2 new ones and cutting out the oldest. The shoots are up to 8 m long in total over the arch and then over the corners onto both house walls and easily reach the 2nd floor ... I shorten the flowering shoots after flowering; if you omit that, the second flush is much weaker
Super rose, I also "recommended" it for my daughter's house, where it stands similarly, but a bit sunnier, and it also grows very well and abundantly there, almost even more strongly.Automatically translated · Show original
