Clematis 'Sweet Wave' is a 2025 novelty from Polish breeder Szczepan Marczyński of the Źródło Dobrych Pnączy nursery and belongs to the Integrifolia Group. Its violet-blue flowers with 4 to 6 sepals reach 10 to 11 cm across and are pleasantly fragrant – a trait not every cultivar in this group offers.
From May to July, 'Sweet Wave' opens a steady succession of new flowers on the current year's growth. Growing to 100 to 170 cm, the sub-shrub forms no clinging roots of its own and instead leans against trellises, low shrubs or supports. This makes it an ideal partner for perennial borders, sunny to semi-shaded south-, east- or west-facing spots, and containers on balconies and patios.
'Sweet Wave' is reliably hardy (zone 4, down to about -34 °C) and copes well even with harsh winters. As it belongs to pruning group 3 and flowers only on new wood, cut the stems back hard to about 10 cm in March – this encourages vigorous new growth in spring and an abundance of fragrant flowers.
