Clematis 'Thyrislund' is not a deliberate breeding but a find: Flemming Hansen discovered it on a north wall at a Danish nursery. Hansen named it after the area where he found it. The 12 cm flowers appear in pale purple, their numerous pointed, wavy-edged tepals carry a paler central bar, and yellow anthers on creamy filaments sit in the centre.
At around 300 cm, 'Thyrislund' climbs up trellises, fences, arbours and other supports, but also scrambles through shrubs and is happy in a large container. Its flowering season runs from May to June. It copes with any aspect – after all, it was discovered on a north wall.
'Thyrislund' is reliably hardy (zone 6, down to about -23 °C). Cut the plant back to about 100 cm in June.
