Clematis integrifolia 'Twinkle' ('Zotwi') was selected in 2006 by the Dutch nursery J. van Zoest and introduced under this name in 2009. It belongs to the herbaceous clematis of the Integrifolia Group – it grows bushy rather than climbing. Its roughly 4 cm, slightly nodding bell-shaped flowers appear in a delicate white with a blue-violet flush on the four twisted, narrow-pointed tepals, with yellow stamens on white filaments at the centre and a pleasant fragrance.
At only about 50 cm, 'Twinkle' stays very compact, making it ideal for the front of a border, a rock garden or a pot on the patio or balcony — it needs no support to climb. It flowers reliably from June to August in a sunny to partially shaded spot with evenly moist, well-drained soil, and bees enjoy it too.
'Twinkle' is hardy to zone 5 (-28.8 to -23.4 °C). As a pruning group 3 variety it flowers on new growth, so cut it back to about 10 cm — almost to the ground — in early spring, in March.
