Today I discovered that the Rabaukin in my garden is a Mermaid! Many years ago I simply grew it from a shoot that I took from a friend's convent, where nobody knew what it actually was either. A rose that - I believe - simply nothing can kill (we don't have severe cold here). Cutting it back is a bloody affair even with leather gloves, but it takes it without complaint, never has diseases and with its clear flowers in a wonderfully warm, soft yellow makes you forget every single thorn. And that all summer long, without having needed additional water even in very hot, dry summers; it can do all that on its own. Absolutely recommended!!!Automatically translated · Show original
The flowers also don't wither as ugly in the summer heat as with some other varieties. Mermaid sheds its petals as it fades. What remains is an attractive little wreath of pollen. She has never had fungal diseases. Pity that she freezes back in hard winters. How frost-hardy she is in zone 7 in the long run, I haven't yet found out. I've only had her for two years, and she got through the last two exceptional winters with some dieback, and afterwards sprouted vigorously very early.Automatically translated · Show original
I think she is not cold-resistant enough for climate zone 7 after all. This was an average winter, but the young shoots have grey-brown sections, that is, frost damage.

A wonderful rose, the prominent stamens, the light fragrance, unique!
In the evening she gently lays a petal over her stamens, as if for protection - can a rose be more sensitive?
I don't consider her a good beginner's rose, even though she is very healthy....
She only develops in late spring, reacts very quickly to frost, the young shoots die off immediately. I enjoy her in a container and overwinter her indoors; in return this true rarity rewards me with abundant blooms.Automatically translated · Show original
