The Clematis 'Pistachio Cake' was developed by Polish breeder Szczepan Marczyński: bred in 2013 from a cross of 'Innocent Blush' and 'Pink Beauty', named in 2021 and introduced in 2022. Its 10-13 cm flowers range from single through semi-double to fully double, showing a soft pink outside with a yellow-green central bar and a paler pink inside edged in reddish-pink; the fully double form carries 30 to 60 staminodes around the eight tepals.
'Pistachio Cake' flowers from May to June. Reaching 150-180 cm, this compact variety suits trellises, obelisks and containers on balcony or terrace. Its decorative seed heads also remain attractive on the plant well after flowering.
'Pistachio Cake' is very reliably hardy (zone 4, down to around -34 °C). For vigorous growth and abundant flowering, cut it back to about 100 cm in March.
