Clematis 'Alaina' was introduced in 2012 by British breeder Raymond Evison as part of his Boulevard Series and carries the breeding name 'Evipo056'. The large, single flowers reach up to 17 cm across and display six broad tepals in an intense pink with a darker central bar, surrounding a crown of yellow stamens.
With a compact, bushy habit of 80 to 120 cm, 'Alaina' shows off her abundant blooms as early as May, one of the earliest hybrids to flower, and after a pause in midsummer she flowers again until September. Her compact growth makes her an ideal choice for containers on patios and balconies, though she also thrives in a bed in a shady spot.
'Alaina' is very hardy (zone 4, down to about −34 °C) and rewards pruning back to around 25 cm in March with an even richer flush of new growth.
