Clematis 'Angela' comes from the Dutch breeder Wim Snoeijer, who raised it from 'Mrs. George Jackman' and 'Andromeda'; it was bred around 2000 and introduced in 2010. Its 7–10 cm flowers are violet with darker bars on the sepals, set off by yellowish-white stamens. The spring flowers carry eight sepals, the summer flowers six.
'Angela' flowers twice a year: the first flush falls in May and June, the second in July and August. At around 150 cm it suits trellises, obelisks and other supports and stays manageable for smaller gardens and patios. It grows happily from full sun to partial shade; keep the root zone cool and shaded, for instance with underplanting.
'Angela' is reliably winter-hardy (zone 6, down to about -23 °C). For a rich second flush, cut the plant back to about 75 cm in June. Expect it to take a few years to reach its full flowering performance.
