The clematis 'Temptation' (breeder's name 'Zotemp') comes from the Netherlands and was introduced in 2008; it is protected under Plant Breeders' Rights (PBR). Its 8–10 cm flowers appear purple with darker stripes: the first flush in spring opens dahlia-like double with a ruffled central rosette, while the second flush in summer produces single flowers with yellow stamens.
Growing about 200 cm tall, 'Temptation' climbs trellises, trellage or obelisks and also suits large containers. It flowers twice a year – from May to June and again from July to August – and belongs to the patens hybrids, the early large-flowered clematis. It thrives best in full sun to partial shade.
'Temptation' is reliably hardy (zone 6, down to around -23 °C). After the first flowering in June, a light trim to about 75 cm is enough; this matches the gentle pruning of pruning group 2, which keeps most of last year's wood.
