Clematis 'Giselle' ('Evipo051') comes from British breeder Raymond Evison, who raised it in 2012 and introduced it in 2013. Its blooms measure about 10 cm across and glow in a deep, slightly dusky pink; darker margins and a red-purple centre give them depth. The six elliptic tepals are slightly wavy and taper to a point, the filaments are purple-pink and the anthers greyish white.
At around 150 cm in height, 'Giselle' stays compact and suits trellises, obelisks and climbing frames as well as a container on the balcony or patio. It flowers from June to September and brightens your garden for many weeks. Choose a spot in full sun to partial shade with moist, well-drained soil, and keep the root zone shaded.
'Giselle' is hardy (zone 5, down to about -28 °C). Cut the plant back to about 30 cm in March – this encourages vigorous new growth and abundant flowering. Plant the clematis so that the crown sits 5–8 cm below the soil surface; this helps it establish and lets new shoots form from the base if needed.
