Clematis 'Cote d'Azur' belongs to the heracleifolia group of herbaceous clematis. Its fragrant blue flowers, about 3 cm across, are typically small for this group.
'Cote d'Azur' flowers from July to September on upright, semi-woody stems. At around 75 cm tall, it suits borders, edging and container growing well; a sunny to partly shaded, well-drained spot benefits its flowering.
The variety is reliably hardy (zone 5, down to about -29 °C). As a member of pruning group 3, it is cut back hard to about 25 cm in March; this promotes bushy growth and a rich summer bloom.
