Clematis 'Bellissima' was introduced in 2019 by Dutch breeder Wim Snoeijer for J. van Zoest. Its 10–14 cm flowers open double to semi-double at first in a delicate pale pink with a mauve sheen, set off by bright yellow stamens; the summer flush then comes single.
At around 200 cm, 'Bellissima' suits trellises, obelisks and other supports well, and also thrives in containers. It flowers from May to June and again from July to August, and prefers a sheltered, sunny to semi-shaded spot, for example facing southwest or south.
'Bellissima' is reliably winter-hardy (zone 6, down to about -23 °C). Cut the plant back to about 75 cm after the first flowering in June, so it regrows vigorously and produces a rich second flush. Give it two to five years to establish — then it shows its full flowering power.
