Clematis 'Prince George' arose in 2010 with English breeder Peter Hoddinott as a sport of the pale blue 'Blue Angel' and was named in 2013 after Prince George of Cambridge, born that same year. Its flat flowers, 8–10 cm across, are white with a slight blue tinge on the reverse. The four to five sepals have wavy, irregularly cut margins, a textured surface and deeply marked veins; the stamens are pale yellow and age to cream.

From August to October 'Prince George' brightens late summer and early autumn with its pale flowers. At around 250 cm it suits trellises, obelisks and other supports and makes a good climbing partner for roses. It thrives in sun to partial shade in any aspect, provided the soil is moist and well drained.

'Prince George' is reliably winter-hardy (zone 5, down to about -29 °C) and is considered easy to grow – also for beginners. Cut the plant back to about 25 cm in March; it flowers on new growth and rewards you with a rich display. Give it two to five years to reach its full size.
