Clematis 'Wonderful' was introduced in 2016 by Dutch breeder J. van Zoest and belongs to the Viticella group. Its slightly nodding, bell-shaped flowers measure 5–7 cm and show a strong, deep pink to reddish-pink colour – a rare shade within the Viticella group. The four tepals are narrow and slightly wavy at the edge, with pale green filaments and anthers tipped dark purple.
'Wonderful' flowers continuously from June to September on the current year's growth. At around 300 cm in height, the variety suits trellises, obelisks and trellis panels well, and is also good for covering fences. It thrives in sun to part shade; keep the root area cool and shaded, for example with low companion plants or a layer of gravel.
'Wonderful' is reliably hardy (zone 5, -28.8 to -23.4 °C) and, like all Viticella varieties, robust and easy to care for. Cut it back hard to about 25 cm in March (pruning group 3) – it will then reshoot reliably and flower abundantly on new wood.
