Clematis 'Welcome Home' is one of the newest introductions from J. van Zoest in Boskoop, the Netherlands, carried under the breeding code 'Zo24025' and currently pending plant breeders' rights. It belongs to the Viticella range, known for its robustness and resistance to the feared clematis wilt — a trait also attributed to this new variety.
From June to September, 'Welcome Home' produces an abundance of medium-sized, 5 to 8 cm wide flowers in various shades of purple with a strikingly filled centre. At around 300 cm in height, it is ideally suited to trellises, pergolas and fences, where it can unfold in full splendour.
'Welcome Home' is hardy to zone 6 (down to about -23 °C) and belongs to pruning group 3: cut the shoots back hard to about 25 cm in March so the plant regrows vigorously and flowers freely each year.
