Clematis 'Dancing Queen' was bred in 1999 by Dutch breeder Wim Snoeijer and flowered for the first time in 2002; the variety was registered in 2007 under the name 'Zodaque'. Its 5–8 cm flowers appear semi-double to double and show a delicate pale pink with white filaments and cream-coloured anthers, carried by 6 to 8 blunt, overlapping tepals.
At around 150 cm, 'Dancing Queen' stays compact, making it well suited to smaller trellises, obelisks and containers on a patio or balcony. It flowers from May to September in two phases and is unusually free-flowering for a double-flowered variety. It thrives best in a sunny to partly shaded spot with well-drained, evenly moist soil.
'Dancing Queen' is reliably winter-hardy (zone 6, down to about -23 °C). Cut the plant back to about 50 cm after the first flowering in June – this encourages vigorous regrowth and a rich late-summer rebloom.
