Clematis 'DANCING SMILE' (botanically C. 'Zodasmi') comes from the Dutch breeding programme of J. van Zoest and was registered with the International Clematis Society in 2010. The variety produces upright, ball-shaped to opening flowers in soft pale pink, 6 to 8 cm across, above ternate green foliage.
At around 200 cm, 'DANCING SMILE' suits trellises, other supports and container growing on balcony or terrace – it also fits into small gardens. The main flush appears from May to June, with a second flowering phase from July to August; for a repeat-flowering clematis, the variety is considered especially free-flowering.
'DANCING SMILE' is reliably winter-hardy (zone 6, down to about -23 °C). Light pruning in June, removing spent flowers, is enough after the first flowering period; cut back to about 75 cm to encourage the late-summer flush.
