Clematis 'Pretty in Blue' was raised in 1992 by Dutch breeder Wim Snoeijer from a cross between Clematis integrifolia 'Olgae' and Clematis recta, and was registered internationally under the cultivar name 'Zopre' in 2003. Its 3–5 cm star-shaped flowers appear in a rich violet-blue with pale stamens and give off a delicate, pleasant fragrance.
From May to September, 'Pretty in Blue' produces a steady succession of flowers and reaches a height of around 150 cm. As an upright-growing herbaceous clematis that barely climbs on its own, it is particularly well suited to containers and window boxes, small trellises, or as a fragrant eye-catcher at the front of a sunny to semi-shaded border.
'Pretty in Blue' is reliably winter-hardy (zone 5, down to about -28 °C) and rewards a hard cutback to about 25 cm in March with especially vigorous regrowth and abundant flowering. In 2002 the variety received an Award of Recommendation from the Royal Boskoop Horticultural Society.
