Clematis 'Blue Diamond' is sold under this trade name. Its flowers are large, 7 to 10 cm across, in a vivid shade of blue.
From June to September, 'Blue Diamond' produces a continuous succession of new flowers on the current year's growth. With a moderate height of around 200 cm, it is well suited to trellises, obelisks and larger containers, and fits into smaller gardens too. A sunny to partly shaded position with free-draining soil supports abundant flowering.
'Blue Diamond' is reliably hardy (zone 5, down to about -28 °C) and comes through Central European winters outdoors without protection. As it flowers on new wood, cut it back hard to about 25 cm in March; this pruning encourages vigorous new growth and a generous flush of flowers throughout the season.
