Clematis 'Pernille' was introduced by Dutch breeder J. van Zoest and presented in the UK by Thorncroft Clematis at the RHS Chatsworth Flower Show in 2017. Its abundant, 6 to 9 cm wide flowers open white with a deep violet edge that fades to a soft pale violet, complemented by striking violet stamens.
Reaching around 300 cm in height, 'Pernille' climbs vigorously over trellises, obelisks or trellis frames and flowers profusely from June to September on the current season's growth. This robust, easy-care clematis thrives in both sunny and partly shaded spots and, thanks to its undemanding habit, makes an excellent companion for roses as well as a good choice for beginners to clematis growing.
'Pernille' is reliably hardy (zone 6, down to around -23 °C) and belongs to pruning group 3: it is cut back to around 25 cm in March, after which it reliably reshoots and flowers abundantly again the same year.
