This climbing rose is my favorite rose in my garden (about 70 rose varieties), even though it is prone to black spot in late summer
and hard to tame because of its vigorous growth.
It is the first rose to bloom, from mid-May depending on the weather,
and then flowers extremely profusely for weeks. The flower color changes with the weather from soft yellow through apricot to a reddish flush
and therefore suits any color scheme.
Another advantage is the clean way it fades.
The densely double, wonderfully fragrant flowers last about 1 week without wilting and then drop.
The stated height of 2 m (Kordes) is a pure understatement. Here, new shoots of 3 to 4 m in length grow every year.
Alchymist grows on a wooden pergola, surrounded by many Austin roses, and they all harmonize wonderfully in flower color, flower form and habit.

At the beginning of July this year I planted this climbing rose variety in a large pot on my balcony with lots of sun. Now, at the beginning of August, this rose is losing many leaves. The rose is currently about 1 meter tall. Is it normal for this variety to lose its leaves at this time? I would be very grateful for any tips.

Greetings Samuel

Alchymist is simply a dream!
Since it only blooms once, I planted it together with another repeat-flowering Kordes rose and the Clematis Arabella (blue).
That way the once-flowering one doesn't really stand out at all, and at any time it's a real eye-catcher !
I wouldn't recommend it for pot planting. I've had good experiences there with Sweet dream or with ground cover roses.
They don't need any care then. But the pot can't be big enough. People often underestimate how quickly a rose roots through even the biggest pot.

Allerdings in diesem Jahr recht farblos!
Alles zusammen ergibt kein gutes Bild.

sturdy and undemanding
Grows for me on a large tree, poor soil, is very rain-resistant, hardly any sooty mould, flowers for about 6 weeks, reliable every year, grows up to 3 metres a year, unfortunately with little branching. The fragrance is good, not very strong. A very healthy rose in a lovely colour.
