This time-tested English rose bears very large, densely double blooms in apricot with a strong, pleasantly fruity fragrance. They are rain-resistant, hardly hang over, and are well suited for cutting into a vase. As they fade they become somewhat lighter. The blooms are also popularly used for making rose-based foods.

The vigorous, healthy shrub grows bushy and upright and flowers repeatedly into autumn. It is reliably hardy; leaf health may need attention in poorly ventilated locations.

This rose variety is also very popular trained as a climbing rose on a trellis or as a pillar rose on rose obelisks. Here, depending on the location and soil conditions, it reaches a height of 300 cm and more.

AUSfather is a beautiful English rose. With me she is now in her second year on a smaller obelisk. Right at the start of the season she was full of gorgeous orange blooms that get lighter as they fade. This year I have also planted her as a little standard rose, two together, and I'm already looking forward to the first blooms.

A beautiful rose with an enchanting fragrance!
With me she stands in a container on the balcony.
It's true that the blooms are only really strongly apricot-coloured in the early stage, but the fading into yellow, apricot and cream is also beautiful to look at.
A healthy rose whose blooms don't become unsightly even in rain. Highly recommended!!

I have had this rose standing in our front garden for some years, twice as a shrub and once as a little standard in the background.
There it is in full sun in the morning and at midday, and the roses simply do superbly here. In the sun the apricot tone does fade quite quickly, but you are more than compensated by a strong, fruity rose fragrance. If you prune them regularly, they flower 2-3 times a year. I fertilise the rose in autumn with either mature compost or horn shavings. Funnily enough, I came to the shrub forms by chance. They were sold to me in a garden centre as a yellow climbing rose!

This is a reliable rose which flowers lushly and persistently with a good fragrance throughout. The beautiful bloom colour varies from apricot (when opening) to soft pink (when fading). Very robust and easy to care for. I have now moved her to the open ground from the large planter in which she proved herself for 2 years. As we have poor soil, the soil was replaced. I'm curious. A very recommendable and good rose for beginners!

She was my first English rose, which I planted about 12 years ago. The rose is not quite in an optimal spot, in partial shade. I can confirm the positive qualities described by the previous rose friends regarding scent and flowering abundance. However, this rose collects all possible rose diseases, has e.g. relatively soft leaves (a delicacy for leaf-rolling sawflies). She is preferably visited by shoot borers and also suffers more than the surrounding roses from black spot. The plant shape is somehow sprawling. Strong shoots of over 2 metres in length are possible, she doesn't particularly like being cut back, but it can't be avoided, since she otherwise looks very gangly. I wanted to remove her several times, but she saves herself every time with the wonderful fragrance.

AUSfather has bloomed reliably for three years, needs a little time after the first flush before she comes back, and then flowers until late autumn.
She is e.g. considerably less susceptible to rust than "Freisinger Morgenröte", which is her neighbour, and also less prone to frost damage. She hardly had any frost damage from the last severe winter of 2004/2005 and kept her normal size (approx. 1 m), whereas I had to cut "Freisinger Morgenröte" back to 30 cm.
It may be that she doesn't do so well in partial shade; with me she stands in full sun. But like many roses she is not immune to leaf-rolling sawfly. She shares that with many ADR roses.
Which rose is immune to it, apart from Westerland...

A special feature is her peach fragrance.

About a year ago I laid out a bed with 8 of them and I'm absolutely thrilled: By now the plants are very vigorous and in part 2.5 m tall, and flower twice (June and autumn) very lushly and persistently in all apricot-pink gradations with a wonderful fragrance. Only one thing worries me a bit: they seem to be quite susceptible to black spot, so that I have to treat them quite often.

Hallo!

I've had it in a pot on my balcony for over 10 years. A wonderful fruity fragrance with beautiful flower colour and shape make this variety a real beauty. I can confirm what's said about its susceptibility to rose stem borers and leaf-rolling sawflies. I check it regularly in spring, and then the pest infestation stays within limits even without the chemical sledgehammer. Now it has moved house with me, is in a new pot, and I'm already looking forward to the intense fragrance in spring!

Hallo zusammen,

Very beautiful, reliable shrub rose with magnificent, abundant flower display
Planted 2 plants together almost 20 years ago, in full
(southern) sun. Comes into bloom reliably every year relatively early
(here already mid-May), the flowering lasts a few weeks
thanks to constantly new buds. Unfortunately I can't say anything about the fragrance,
as my sense of smell fails here (= with good fragrances)...
Strong, bushy growth, partly also individual long shoots,
which are of course shortened. I prune her into shape every year
again, cut out what has faded (or is about to)
and enjoy her vitality. However, some years
- without much treatment - she can lose most of her leaves because of black spot
and then stands almost bare in August...
