This English shrub rose bears large, densely double blooms in a somewhat muted yellow that become lighter as they fade. The fragrance varies with changing temperatures between blossom tea and lemon, and is often perceived as faint.

It forms a bushy-growing, resistant shrub with glossy green, leathery foliage and has a good landscape impact.

The rose variety is named after the naturalist Charles Darwin.
