Clematis 'Fairy Dance' comes from the breeding programme of Szczepan Marczyński in Poland and was introduced in 2022 as one of three new viticella cultivars, alongside 'Fairy Bells' and 'Fairy Slippers'. Its nodding, bell-shaped flowers appear in vivid blue to blue-violet, with darker veining and margins on the four narrow, slightly wavy and finely fringed sepals, set off by creamy-white filaments with yellowish anthers.
At a height of 250 to 300 cm, 'Fairy Dance' climbs vigorously over trellises, obelisks and other supports. From June to October it keeps producing its 15 cm flowers, giving a long and abundant flowering season. It appreciates a sunny to semi-shaded spot facing south, east or west.
'Fairy Dance' is very winter-hardy (zone 4, down to about -34 °C). As a pruning-group-3 clematis, cut it back to about 25 cm in March – it will then shoot out vigorously and flower profusely on the new wood the same summer.
