Clematis 'Fairy Slippers' comes from the breeding programme of Szczepan Marczyński in Poland and was introduced in 2022 as one of three new viticella cultivars, alongside 'Fairy Bells' and 'Fairy Dance'. Its nodding, bell-shaped flowers show a creamy base shading to light violet-pink at the margin, with a light violet reverse veined in pink, carried on four narrow, slightly wavy sepals with a recurved tip.
At a height of 200 to 250 cm, 'Fairy Slippers' suits trellises, obelisks and other supports even in smaller gardens. From June to October it keeps producing its 3 cm flowers, giving an unusually long flowering season. It appreciates a sunny to semi-shaded spot facing south, east or west.
'Fairy Slippers' is very winter-hardy (zone 4, down to about -34 °C). As a pruning-group-3 clematis, cut it back to about 25 cm in March – it will then shoot out vigorously and flower on the new wood the same summer.
