Clematis 'Lady Q' belongs to the I AM® series from van Zoest and was raised in 1998 by Dutch breeder Wim Snoeijer in Boskoop; it reached the market in 2007. Its nodding, broadly bell-shaped flowers measure 5–6 cm, with white sepals edged in pink, green filaments and purple anthers. Up to seven flowers sit in one cluster – similar to 'Minuet', but much larger.
From July to September 'Lady Q' keeps opening new flowers over many months, hanging down in loose cascades. At around 250 cm it grows faster and taller than 'Minuet' and suits trellises, obelisks, fences and larger climbing frames; it needs enough room and should not be pruned too hard. A position in full sun to partial shade with evenly moist, well-drained soil is ideal, and the roots are happy shaded.
'Lady Q' is very hardy (zone 5, down to about -29 °C). Like all viticella clematis it flowers on new growth and is cut back to about 25 cm in March. Plant it with the crown 5–8 cm below soil level – this encourages strong new shoots from the ground.

I have had Lady Q for three years now. She grows into a lilac tree. Every year she reaches the top with her new shoots and hangs down in cascades with hundreds of flowers. New buds keep opening, since mid-June. So almost a month now. She is very hardy; the last winter, which killed so many things for me (here in Munich), she survived without damage and without any special covering.
All in all: an unusual clematis, healthy and dreamlike. Highly recommended.Automatically translated · Show original
