Clematis viticella 'Cicciolina' takes its name from the Italian actress known by her stage name 'La Cicciolina'. Fittingly, it bears medium-sized, 3 to 5 cm wide flowers in vivid pink with a creamy-white central stripe that darkens towards the edges, set off by cream-coloured anthers.
'Cicciolina' flowers abundantly and reliably from June to August. At around 300 cm, it climbs vigorously up trellises, obelisks or trellage and fits just as well into smaller gardens. As an Italian clematis, it is considered particularly robust and easy to care for.
'Cicciolina' is reliably winter-hardy (zone 5, down to about -28.8 °C). For vigorous growth and abundant flowering, cut the plant back to about 25 cm in March – as a group 3 cultivar, it tolerates this hard pruning without any trouble.
